FAQ
Do I need a paid Smarty account?
You will need a Smarty account. Smarty offers a free trial with no credit card required. It lasts 42 days or 1,000 lookups, whichever comes first, after which a paid plan is needed.
The plugin uses two Smarty APIs: US Street Address for validation and the business or residential check, and US Autocomplete Pro for suggestions as you type. Each is a separate subscription in your Smarty dashboard. With only the Street API the plugin still works, and customers type their address manually rather than picking from suggestions.
Can I accept only business addresses, or only home addresses?
Yes. Edit the form, click the Address field, open the Advanced tab and set Allowed Address Type. You can also write the message customers see. The check uses USPS data from Smarty when the form is submitted. Addresses Smarty can’t classify are let through, so a real customer is never stuck.
Can I block PO Boxes?
Yes. On the Address field’s Advanced tab, tick Block PO Boxes. It recognizes the common ways people write one, such as “PO Box”, “P.O. Box”, “POB” and “Post Office Box”, and works without a Smarty account. Rural route boxes such as “RR 2 Box 15” are allowed.
Does it work with existing forms?
Yes. It works with the standard Gravity Forms Address field in your existing forms, including AJAX forms, with no coding required.
Will it slow down my site?
Its script loads in the page footer, and only on pages with a Gravity Forms Address field when autocomplete is on. Other pages don’t load it at all.
How many sites can I use it on?
Unlimited. One license covers every site you build.
What happens when my license expires?
The plugin keeps working. What stops is updates and support. Renewing at any point restores both.
Does it support international addresses?
No. Address Validation covers US addresses only.
